Google Page Rank is a website score that represents how important a websites relevance is in the category of business they represent. One of the equations in getting your site to the top of the search engine ranking positions involves achieving high Page Rank (PR). Page rank (PR) is one of those Internet marketing terms that Google has made famous.
Each website is assigned a value from zero to ten with ten being the highest. When your website is brand new it is automatically assigned a value of zero. Your goal is to get that number up to ten, which isn't easy, but it can be done, it just takes work. PR is a value that Google assigns to a web page based on the importance of the page. It is determined by the number of incoming links to that web page and few other factors including the page rank of the page giving the link to you.
As there are two types of links that can refer back to your website, they are reciprocal links and one way links. Reciprocal links are links in which a website places a link on their website that points back to yours and in return you put a link to their website on yours. This process is also called a link exchange. One way links are exactly what the term implies. A website has a link pointing back to your website and you are not obligated to return the favor. Google determines the P.R. of a site using a number of facets one of which is the amount of other important web pages that link to that page. The higher the Page Rank of the web page the link is coming from, the better the quality of that link. For example If a web page has a PR of 10 and if there is 1 oustbound link from that page linking to your website that link carries a PR of 10, and Google will love your website because it is getting a link from a very powerful site. Although there is nothing wrong with a website that has a PR of 1 pointing back to you, it just means you will need more of them.
There are lots of ways to increase your page rank, but the most common methods are posting in discussion forums that have a high page rank, article marketing, submitting your site to directories, commenting on blogs and distributing press releases. It is worth noting that the PR displayed on the Google toolbar is not up to date. Although Google is always internally updating the page rank of web pages, the toolbar is only updated every few months. |
